diamondjoe Another great release from Jack Dora. This tune is so catchy. As with alot of Jacks music this is a perfect mix of rock & electronica. You will want to get your ass out onto the dance floor for this one. Keep up the good work & cheers for the tunes 👍

about

A story-based song about a pretty wild year living abroad, the excitement of falling in love with a new city and the feeling that home is always hot on your trail.

lyrics

A one way ticket was the one I had
My parents waved goodbye and boy were they glad
My hands were all sweaty, a beer-full belly
Drunk as fuck watching in flight telly

I landed at noon, twenty four later
To the rooftop pool, with no translator
Back of motorbike, police were on strike
I’m paying this nutter, but I’d rather just hike

Said I’ve been a couple places
Not many like this
My capital of graceless
And the rain that I could kiss
She said this city’s not like Dublin
And it won’t be long
Mark my words kid
You’ll be stuck in Saigon

A job came handy and the pay was fucking great
Three hours every day, and every day I’m late
Teaching little kids how to count to ten
Back the very next day just to teach it all again

And I’m two months in, chatting to a girl
Who came for a very short jog around the world
But it’s been a couple years now, she’s become a wife
Says there’s nothing sweeter than the Vietnam life

Said I’ve been a couple places
Not many like this
My capital of graceless
And the rain that I could kiss
She said this city’s not like Dublin
And it won’t be long
Mark my words kid
You’ll be stuck in Saigon

5 months in, Christmas long gone
Another few months just to see what’s going on
Bought myself a bike, found myself a girl
I’m realizing slowly how my plans have unfurled

Because a one way ticket was the one I had
Told mammy I’d be home soon, now she’s getting mad
I was Donald Draper’s Betty, but now I’m getting ready
To turn a shite future into something fucking deadly

Said I’ve been a couple places
Not many like this
My capital of graceless
And the rain that I could kiss
She said this city’s not like Dublin
And it won’t be long
Mark my words kid
You’ll be stuck in Saigon
